COFFEE TABLE

Frame and tabletop edging made from solid, London-grown elm. The top is inlaid with spalted beech veneer cut into a kaleidoscopic geometric design. Finished by hand with hard-wearing, stain-resistant, food-safe oil.

The 'spalting' is a form of fungus. This particular beech tree was buried in the ground in Germany for 3 years to achieve the perfect amount of rot. Competing colonies of bacteria occupy different areas of the log, and release different pigments into the wood, creating an incredible spectrum of colours. The black lines are the battle lines between colonies.
